Position Overview:

The Controller is responsible for leading the finance and accounting function for a large-scale manufacturing operation in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This role will oversee financial reporting, costing, operational analysis, budgeting, and internal controls, while acting as a key business partner to operational leadership. The successful candidate will bring strong manufacturing finance experience, a hands-on approach to plant costing, and exposure to working within a larger, complex corporate environment.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Controller will include:

  • Lead all plant finance and accounting activities, including month-end close, reporting, and financial analysis
  • Oversee and participate in cost accounting, inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis
  • Prepare and review monthly financial and management reporting packages
  • Analyze production costs, raw material usage, labour, and operational efficiencies
  • Partner with operations leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities and support strategic decision-making
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and business plans for the facility
  • Ensure strong internal controls, compliance, and adherence to corporate policies and procedures
  • Review capital projects and support ROI and business case analysis
  • Lead, mentor, and support the local finance team
  • Provide detailed reporting and commentary to senior leadership on operational and financial performance

Requirements:

  • Canadian CPA designation required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally within a manufacturing or plant environment
  • Strong costing, inventory, and operational finance experience
  • Experience within a larger enterprise or multi-site corporate environment preferred
  • Proven ability to partner with operational leaders and senior executives
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with reporting and dashboard tools
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
  • Full-time in-office opportunity in the Winnipeg area
