TheSummer Enrichment Program (SEP) English asaAdditional LanguageInstructoris responsible fordesigning and delivering engaging educational programming that supports the academic success and social integration of refugee and immigrant youth.
The instructor will develop materials prior to program start and deliver high-quality instruction throughout the program. Working within a culturally diverse environment, the instructor will foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning space that encourages participant engagement, confidence, and academic growth.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development
- Develop age-appropriate and engaging lesson plans and learning materials two-weeks prior to program commencement
- Adapt instructional materials to meet the learning needs of participants
- Incorporate interactive, student-centered teaching strategies
- Ensure curriculum aligns with programobjectivesand participant learning outcomes
Program Delivery
- Develop and deliver English language instruction focused on reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary development
- Support participants in building confidence in academic and conversational English
- Incorporate culturally responsive teaching methods and language-learning activities
- Facilitate individual and group learning activities
- Monitor and assess participant progress and provide ongoing feedback and support
- Track attendance records andmonitorparticipant engagement
- Promote active participation and positive classroom environment
Student Support
- Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for newcomer,refugeeand immigrant youth
- Support participants' academic, social, and emotional well-being
- Foster cross-cultural understanding and respect
- Identifyand communicate any participant concerns to the Program Coordinator as appropriate
Program Administration
- Participate in staff orientation, planning meetings, and training sessions
- Contribute to program evaluation and reporting
- Maintain confidentiality of participant information
- Adhere to ANC policies, procedures, and safeguarding practices
- Assistwith otherSummerprogram activities asrequired
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience teaching English, ESL, EAL, or language arts
- Experience working with newcomer, immigrant, refugee, or multilingual youth
- Strong understanding of language acquisition principles
- Excellent communication, organizational and classroom management skills
Conditions of Employment:
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
- Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
- Valid class 5 NL drivers license and daily access to apersonalvehicleisrequired
- Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
