THE OPPORTUNITY
PRI is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Technologist to join our Surrey, BC team. In this hands-on role, you will support geotechnical field investigations, subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing, and technical reporting across a wide range of project types: including residential and commercial development, transportation infrastructure, municipal projects, and land development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field & Investigation Support
Conduct subsurface investigations including test pit excavations, borehole logging, and in-situ testing programs
Perform field monitoring activities including slope inclinometers, piezometers, and settlement monitoring
Collect, label, and transport soil and rock samples in accordance with project protocols and chain-of-custody requirements
Operate and maintain field equipment; perform equipment calibration and quality checks
Record detailed field logs, observations, and measurements with accuracy and thoroughness
Laboratory Testing
Perform standard geotechnical laboratory tests independently including grain size analysis, Atterberg limits, moisture content, compaction testing (Proctor), and consolidation testing
Operate laboratory equipment safely and in accordance with applicable ASTM/CCIL standards
Maintain accurate lab records, calibration logs, and chain-of-custody documentation
Assist in organizing and processing laboratory data for use in geotechnical reports
Reporting & Technical Support
Prepare field notes, borehole logs, test pit logs, and inspection reports for review by project engineers
Compile and organize field and lab data for inclusion in geotechnical investigation reports
Support engineers in the preparation of geotechnical and environmental site assessment reports
Review and interpret field and lab data; identify anomalies or issues requiring follow-up
Health, Safety & Quality
Adhere to PRI's Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies and project-specific safety plans at all times
Conduct daily field safety briefings (tailgate meetings) and complete field hazard assessments as required
Maintain awareness of site-specific hazards including excavation safety, traffic management, and confined spaces
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Diploma or degree in Geotechnical Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline
Minimum 35 years of geotechnical lab and field experience in a consulting environment
Registered or eligible for registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) through ASTTBC
Demonstrated experience with subsurface investigation techniques including drilling, test pitting, and sampling
Strong understanding of soil classification systems (USCS) and standard geotechnical field testing methods
Valid BC driver's licence and reliable access to transportation
Ability to work in varied field environments and conditions, including early mornings, remote sites, and inclement weather
Assets
Experience performing geotechnical laboratory testing (grain size, Atterberg limits, Proctor, consolidation) considered a strong asset
Familiarity with laboratory management systems and LIMS software
Experience with environmental field work including soil and groundwater sampling
Proficiency with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar technical software
First Aid certification (OFA Level 1 or higher)
Experience working on BC Transportation, municipal infrastructure, or residential development projects
