Must Have:

  1. Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces across web, mobile, and digital platforms.
  2. Apply iterative design practices based on user testing, feedback, and usability best practices.
  3. Develop wireframes, mockups, prototypes, user flows, journey maps, and sitemaps optimized for multiple devices.
  4. Experience with Ontario Design Systems (ODS).
  5. Design and conduct user research using qualitative and quantitative methods (interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing).
  6. Analyze user needs, behaviours, and motivations to inform design decisions.
  7. Proficiency with industry-standard tools for UI/UX design and research documentation.
  8. Strong facilitation skills, working with various stakeholders including the technical team and business team - ability to draw consensus.
  9. Experience with Figma, Adobe suite, Miro
  10. Ensure that deliverables align with accessibility standards (e.g., AODA/WCAG) and inclusive design principles.

Nice to have:

  1. Experience with Azure/DevOps.
  2. Prior OPS or Public Sector exp.

Description:

The UX/UI Designer and User Research Specialist is responsible for designing and delivering intuitive, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences. This role involves creating visually appealing interfaces and conducting user research to ensure products meet the needs of users across web and mobile platforms.

Design and develop user interfaces for digital services, applications, and online platforms that enhance usability and overall user satisfaction. Define and iterate on product functionality through user-centered design practices, ensuring solutions are informed by usability testing, user feedback, and business requirements.

Plan, conduct, and analyze user research using qualitative and quantitative methods, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and behavioral analysis. Translate research findings into actionable insights and design artifacts such as user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.

Apply an iterative design approach, rapidly testing and refining solutions to improve the user experience. Identify design challenges and develop effective, elegant solutions that align with both technical constraints and user expectations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, stakeholders, and business leads, to support product vision and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines. Deliver high-quality outputs while managing multiple priorities and maintaining strong attention to detail.

Ensure digital experiences are inclusive, accessible, and aligned with relevant standards and best practices. Continuously evaluate and optimize interfaces using analytics, user feedback, and research findings.

Experience With:

  • User-centered design, UX/UI principles, and designing high-quality digital experiences across web and mobile platforms.
  • Conducting user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing, and behavioral analysis.
  • Creating design artifacts such as wireframes, prototypes, user flows, journey maps, and sitemaps.
  • Design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, Adobe XD, or similar).
  • Translating complex user needs and business requirements into intuitive design solutions.
  • Web development technologies and their limitations in designing functional interfaces.
  • Accessibility and inclusive design standards (e.g., WCAG, AODA).
  • Analyzing analytics, user feedback, and research findings to continuously improve digital products.
  • Collaborating within multidisciplinary teams using agile methodologies and tools.
  • Managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and delivering within tight timelines.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for designing and delivering user-centered digital interfaces, including wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for web and mobile applications.
  2. Responsible for incorporating stakeholder and user feedback into design iterations, ensuring timely updates to design artifacts and deliverables.
  3. Ensure that activities are undertaken following the Client's digital service standards, accessibility requirements, and UX best practices.
  4. Apply proven UX/UI frameworks, methodologies, and tools to support effective product design and research outcomes.
  5. Provide knowledge transfer, advice, coaching, and facilitation to project teams on user experience and research best practices.
  6. Prepare design artifacts and associated presentation materials, including user flows, journey maps, research findings, and recommendations.
  7. Review and ensure quality of design deliverables, ensuring outputs align with business objectives and user needs.
  8. Facilitate the development of user requirements, personas, and experience strategies with project teams, ensuring clarity in scope and expected outcomes.
  9. Ensure that deliverables align with accessibility standards (e.g., AODA/WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
  10. Provide advice on potential usability challenges and barriers to user adoption.
  11. Ensure that design solutions clearly and effectively communicate intended functionality, user interactions, and user journeys.
  12. Identify issues, risks, and mitigation strategies throughout the design and research lifecycle.
  13. Facilitate team reviews and approvals of design concepts and research findings, incorporating required updates.
  14. Provide advice and knowledge transfer to Client resources, including leading UX/UI and research practices.
  15. Identify risks and provide recommendations to mitigate risks through design validation and user testing.
  16. Participate in meetings with senior management and stakeholders, presenting design approaches and research insights as required.
  17. Apply knowledge of user behavior, industry trends, digital best practices, and emerging technologies to meet business objectives.
  18. Develop options and recommendations for design approaches based on research findings and business needs.
  19. Identify critical success factors with the project team to inform product usability and user satisfaction.
  20. Assist with facilitation of design workshops, co-creation sessions, and stakeholder alignment meetings.
  21. Support implementation teams by ensuring design specifications and assets are clearly documented for development.
  22. Provide advice on user experience considerations within Statements of Work (SOW) and project planning.
  23. Support onboarding of teams and stakeholders to user-centered design practices and tools, if required.
