Position Summary:
Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a Youth Worker. The Youth Worker is responsible for organizing and coordinating recreational and awareness activities/workshops for Wasauksing youth ages 13 -18 years of age, incorporating history and culture, where appropriate.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Youth Worker acts as a confidante to youth individually and as an advocate for youth collectively:
- Discusses challenges facing youth helping them generate options to make good decisions, emphasizing personal growth, self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness.
- Organizes, delivers and participates in various recreation programs/tournaments: volleyball, badminton, basketball, floor hockey, etc.
- Participates as a member of multi-disciplinary teams of community caregivers to ensure effective and efficient services for community members.
- Work closely with Elders to obtain knowledge and guidance to assist youth.
- Organizes and supervises youth day camp.
- Designs, develops and prepares proposals for funding of programs and services to enhance youth activities.
- Operates in accordance with and ensures compliance to the Wasauksing First Nation Administrative, Finance and program policies and procedures as may be updated and amended from time to time.
- Other duties/tasks/responsibilities as required and as assigned.
- Provides moral support, and encouragement to youth individually and in groups regarding personal issues and stay in school strategy.
- Explores and arranges various arts and crafts practiced by community, handed down from generation to generation.
- Participates in group exchange.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor
- Attend appropriate workshops, seminars, and training sessions as required and as assigned to remain current and up-to-date on topics of concern to the work assignments for the position.
- Liaise with other First Nations, program agencies, and related organizations/institutions to network effectively for the benefit of the Wasauksing First Nation, Chief and Council and the community.
Education & Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma in a Social Services discipline
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years experience in a Social Services setting.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to speak Ojibway would be an asset.
- Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written.
- Must possess excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent computer skills an asset.
- A current and valid Drivers Licence and dependable vehicle, is an asset.
- Provide a current CPIC
