THE ROLE
We are partnering with a well-respected litigation boutique with a national presence and deep expertise in insurance, class actions, and health law. With offices in Vancouver and Toronto, this firm is known for its collaborative culture and high-calibre legal work across multiple jurisdictions.
We are recruiting for a Litigation LAA to join their growing Vancouver office. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators who appear before courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Supporting 1 Partner in Insurance Defence along with a Paralegal, the successful candidate will be motivated, a quick learner and an integral part of their friendly and collaborative team. You will be able to take initiative to handle files from open to close, keeping the lawyer organized and ensuring no deadlines are missed.
Responsibilities
- Performing LAA work from file opening to closing.
- Drafting simple pleadings, including application records, books of authorities, appeal records and appeal books.
- Drafting correspondence.
- Filing documents with court registries.
- Communicating with opposing counsel, experts and clients.
- Maintaining BF limitation dates.
Requirements
- LAA Certificate or relevant experience.
- 3+ years of experience in civil litigation (areas ideally: Construction Law, Personal Injury, Health Law, Class Actions)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal directly with clients and all levels of staff.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail, organized and proactive, able to multitask and handle changing priorities.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Word and ability to learn new software and technology quickly.
- Knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules and ability to interpret Rules and Acts.
- Experience with ProLaw an asset.
