Senior Property Accountant Role
The Property Accountant reports to the Manager of Finance and Manager of Accounting with
responsibilities that include ensuring tenant revenue collection, preparing rental packages for commercial
and industrial tenants for properties across Canada, performing operating cost reconciliation for Common
Area Maintenance expenses, acting as the main point of contact for tenants for all finance and accounting
matters, and providing insightful financial analyses to assist with the company's strategic goals.
Specific Accountabilities:
Preparing annual CAM operating expense reconciliations in accordance with the lease terms,
explaining charges to tenants, and providing expense backups if requested
Assist in property revenue accounting including maintaining rent rolls and reviewing monthly
scheduled rental charges
Ensuring rental collection for all tenants and reconciliation of tenant payments, by conducting
regular reviews of account receivable balances, following up with tenants on delinquencies, and
negotiating payment plans as applicable
Connect with Tenants, vendors and stakeholders, communicate & negotiate Company interests
Preparing and sending rental summaries and onboarding packages for tenants
Conducting monthly billings as needed, such as tenant chargebacks and utility allocations
Being the main tenant contact for accounting and finance matters, and coordinating with the
property management and leasing teams on tenant inquiries
Forecasting operating expenditure, developing and updating budgets, reviewing against actuals
Design and develop recommendations to optimize processes and procedures
Build collaborative and functional relationships with other departments and other stakeholders
Any other tasks that may be required to meet company objectives
Requirements:
Post-secondary degree / diploma, (equiv. of Finance, Accounting, Commerce or Business)
4-6 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and rental leases
Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail
Ability to maintain organized records and documentation
Advanced Microsoft Excel, such as pivot tables and xlookup
Able to respond to tight deadlines
Effective time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to balance multiple
concurrent projects and priorities Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment
