Welding / Fabrication Estimator

Role Description: The Senior Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Sarnia, ON. This position is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for machining, fabrication, field services, and marine repair projects, using drawings, specifications, and client requirements. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing tender documents, conducting material and labor take-offs, obtaining and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotations, and developing detailed cost breakdowns and proposals. The Senior Estimator collaborates closely with engineering, production, and project management teams to clarify scopes, assess risks, and optimize methods for cost-effective delivery. The role also involves tracking historical cost data, refining estimating tools and standards, supporting bid negotiations with clients, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes.

Qualifications

• Strong background in estimating for machining, fabrication, industrial construction, or marine repair, with experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.

• Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office (especially Excel), with the ability to build and maintain cost models and databases.

• Solid understanding of materials, machining processes, welding, fabrication methods, and field services in heavy industry environments.

• Ability to analyze labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and to prepare clear, detailed, and competitive quotations and proposals.

• Excellent numerical, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients.

• Post-secondary education in engineering technology, construction management, industrial trades, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.

• Previous experience in petrochemical, power generation, marine, or other heavy industrial sectors is an asset.

• Commitment to safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement in all aspects of estimating and project support.
