About the Project:
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.
Position Overview:
The Traffic Control Construction Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of traffic management and traffic staging activities associated with major rail transit infrastructure projects delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP).
Working within a complex urban construction environment, this role coordinates temporary traffic control measures, lane closures, detours, pedestrian management, and access planning to support safe and efficient construction operations while minimizing impacts to the public, businesses, transit operations, and surrounding communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Traffic Control & Construction Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day traffic control and pedestrian and transit management to support construction activities across stations, guideways, tunnels, and roadway interfaces.
- Assist with implementation of temporary traffic and transit management plans (TTMPs), detours, lane closures, pedestrian routing, and access management.
- Ensure traffic control measures are installed and maintained in accordance with approved plans, permits, and regulatory requirements.
Traffic Staging & Planning
- Support development, review, and coordination of traffic staging and traffic control plans for construction activities.
- Coordinate with site supervisors to minimize disruption to road users, businesses, emergency services, and transit operations.
- Monitor field conditions and recommend adjustments to traffic control plans as required.
Stakeholder & Agency Coordination
- Liaise with municipalities, road authorities, transit agencies, emergency services, subcontractors, and utility providers regarding traffic control activities.
- Support coordination with authorities having jurisdictions (AHJs), including City of Toronto, City of Mississauga, TTC, MiWay, and regional transportation stakeholders.
- Assist with public and stakeholder notifications related to traffic impacts and construction staging.
Site Monitoring & Compliance
- Conduct daily site inspections to verify traffic control setups, signage, barriers, and pedestrian protections are compliant and function effectively and maintain daily log.
- Identify and resolve traffic-related safety concerns, deficiencies, or non-conformances.
- Ensure compliance with applicable traffic control standards, municipal requirements, AODA and project specifications.
Safety & Risk Management
- Promote a strong safety culture with a focus on workers, pedestrian, cyclist, and motorist safety.
- Support implementation of traffic-related safety measures and incident response protocols.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating risks associated with construction staging and public interface areas.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records of traffic control plans, permits, staging changes, inspections, and related documentation.
- Support preparation of reports, tracking logs, and coordination meeting minutes.
- Coordinate updates to traffic control drawings and field revisions as required.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering / planning, or related discipline.
- Experience supporting traffic control plans, traffic staging, or construction coordination on transit infrastructure and / or roadway projects.
- Familiarity with Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM) Book 7, AODA and municipal traffic management requirements.
- Experience in design-build and/or P3 project environments is an asset.
- Exposure to urban or live-traffic construction environments is highly desirable.Strong coordination and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, public-facing construction environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Knowledge of temporary traffic control practices and roadway safety requirements.
- Proficiency with MS Office and construction coordination/documentation tools.
