Pipe Line Maintenance (PLM) Operator (Permanent FT)

Located in the North Thompson valley, at Simpcw Resources LLP, we provide environmental, ecological, and cultural resource services while preserving Simpcw culture and heritage with respect for the environment. Our mission is to support sustainable economic development within the Simpcwlecw (Simpcw Territory) by delivering high-quality services.

Current Opportunities:

Simpcw Resources LLP is growing rapidly and looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Operator to join our Pipeline Maintenance team. The Operator will report to the Foreman and perform heavy equipment operator work outside in all weather conditions. The ideal operator will be able to use a dozer, excavator, grader, or other heavy equipment. The scope of work includes integrity digs and pipeline construction.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate with the Asset Assistant Manager to organize operational demands, scheduling, and department priorities.

Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate assigned equipment as qualified and authorized, including excavators, dozers, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, rock trucks, dump trucks, and other support equipment.
  • Perform excavation around active oil and gas utilities (hotline work), right-of-way clearing, site preparation, utility locating, and general pipeline construction and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and report deficiencies, damage, or maintenance requirements immediately.
  • Operate equipment within manufacturer specifications, company procedures, site rules, and client requirements.
  • Secure attachments, maintain equipment, lubricate components, refill fluids, and ensure equipment is kept in safe working condition.
  • Shut down equipment and stop work if unsafe conditions are identified.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company HSE policies, client safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Participate in daily tailgate meetings, Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), orientations, and required training.
  • Maintain fitness for duty and all required certifications.
  • Identify, report, and address hazards, near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Exercise and support stop-work authority whenever safety concerns arise.
  • Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and compliance with all safe work procedures.

Operational Execution

  • Support pipeline maintenance and integrity projects, including integrity digs, excavation and exposure activities, access preparation, backfilling, restoration, and site cleanup.
  • Assist welders, coating technicians, inspectors, and other crew members as required.
  • Follow project drawings, alignment sheets, scope requirements, and direction from Lead Hands and Foremen.
  • Maintain efficient work sequencing and contribute to overall crew productivity.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Quality of Work

  • Complete work in accordance with project specifications, tolerances, company standards, and client requirements.
  • Protect pipelines, coatings, underground utilities, and surrounding infrastructure during excavation and handling activities.
  • Identify potential quality concerns early and communicate them to supervision.
  • Minimize rework by following approved procedures and instructions.

Equipment Care & Housekeeping

  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Support professional job site standards and housekeeping practices.
  • Report equipment damage, excessive wear, or maintenance concerns promptly.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Take direction from Foremen and Lead Hands and communicate clearly with crew members and supervision.
  • Ask questions when instructions, site conditions, or work expectations are unclear.
  • Foster a respectful, cooperative, and safety-focused team environment.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Previous pipeline construction or maintenance experience in an operator capacity and proven competency in excavation of operating utilities (hotline)
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to identify safety risks and hazards and comply with relevant safety procedures and regulations.
  • Physically able to perform manual labour outdoors (12 hours per shift, 6 days on, 1 day off)
  • Physically able to handle and lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds
  • Experience operating and excavator on pipeline related work is required
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS) Certificate
  • Ground Disturbance - Level II program an asset
