Salary:
$50.07 – $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day. Employees in this division have the opportunity to enrol in the College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the Employer.
This contract will be for approximately 90 hours.
Description:
NLC requires one, or more sessional instructor(s) to teach the sections as indicated below – the courses have specific intakes (fall or winter). Classes for the fall intake will begin on September 9th; winter intake begin on January 5th.
ITEC 112: Foundations of Web Development (90 hours) – This course introduces Web Page Development. It covers HTML and XHTML code, standards and validation. Use of design elements (colour, images) and multimedia are discussed. The student will examine the multitude of browsers, standards and requirements for web surfers everywhere and will produce a final web page that can satisfy most (or all) browser types. In the second half of the course Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used extensively, while XML and JavaScript are both touched on briefly. Students will also explore current issues and the future of Web Development. (Fall) Tue/Thu 11:45 a.m. - 1:10 p.m.
ITEC 150: Small Computer Systems: Organization & Architecture – lab & lecture (112.5 hours) - The theory and application of providing support, trouble shooting and repairing personal computers and related attached devices is explored. (Fall) Wed 1:15 p.m. - 4:10 p.m.
ITEC 220: Object Oriented Programming with Java (90 hours) – This course introduces Java grammar and syntax and object-oriented programming concepts. Emphasis is placed on the powerful programming techniques supported by Java including extending classes, interfaces, and exception handling. The packages provided by the Java platform that support applets, events and Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) are examined. (Winter) Fri 8:45 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.
ITEC 255: Human Computer Interaction (90 hours) – Based on theories and concepts of human-computer interactions, students will design, create, and test a user interface that implements user-centered design principles. Different types of user interface components will be explored. (Winter) Wed 8:45 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's Degree in Computer Sciences, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrable experience related to course content as listed above.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
- Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.
Preferred:
- PhD in Computer Sciences
- The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
- Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment; and
- Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
