Atlantic Road Construction & Paving is a well established heavy civil construction company specializing in mass excavation, drilling and blasting, pipe and underground utility, concrete placement and asphalt paving. We are currently looking to hire an experienced Rock Driller to join our drilling and blasting crews operating throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience operating rock drills in a construction, quarry, or drilling and blasting environment.
- Strong understanding of drilling and blasting operations, safety procedures, and industry best practices.
- Experience reading drill plans and maintaining drilling accuracy.
- Solid understanding of construction, maintenance techniques & how to safely use equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to manage many tasks.
- Possess a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Heavy Equipment Operator trade certification considered an asset.
- Experience with GPS-guided drilling systems considered an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Check equipment before operating to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency components are in good working order.
- Operate rock drilling equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with project requirements and drill plans.
- Drill blast holes to specified depths, angles, and patterns while maintaining production targets.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on drilling equipment.
- Assist blasting crews as required while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries immediately to the supervisor.
- Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work as required.
- Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
- Operate equipment such as mobile radios and telephones to exchange necessary information with supervisors and crew members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around drilling operations.
- Other duties as required.
