About CSMC

Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation is developing advanced energy and aerospace technologies that include nuclear microreactors for space and extreme environments, quantum sensing platforms, and mission critical deep tech systems. We are hiring a Nuclear Engineer with strong neutronics and reactor physics expertise to join our reactor design team and help build the physics foundation of our micro modular reactor programs.

This is a hands on technical role in a fast moving environment. You will develop high fidelity neutronics models, run transport and diffusion simulations, support multiphysics integration, and contribute to first of a kind reactor concepts.

About the Role

You will work on neutron transport simulations, core physics modeling, reactivity and kinetics evaluations, fuel cycle and burnup analysis, multiphysics coupling with thermal hydraulics and structural teams, benchmark and validation work, and nuclear data processing. You will collaborate closely with engineering, safety, and program teams to produce defensible and auditable reactor physics outputs suitable for a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

Neutronics and Reactor Physics

Perform neutron transport and reactor physics simulations using Serpent2, OpenMC, MCNP, SCALE, DRAGON, MOOSE based solvers, or other neutronics and nodal diffusion codes

Build and maintain high fidelity core, lattice, reflector, and shielding models for microreactor concepts

Conduct reactivity coefficient evaluations, power distribution studies, burnup and depletion analysis, kinetics assessments, and control system behavior studies

Support core design optimization, fuel selection, reflector and shielding design, and neutronic performance trade studies

Multiphysics and Safety Integration

Work with thermal hydraulics engineers on coupled neutronics and thermal hydraulics analysis

Provide neutronics inputs for safety analysis, transient behavior, and extreme environment performance assessments

Nuclear Data and Verification

Process and interpret nuclear data libraries including ENDF B, JEFF, and JENDL

Perform sensitivity and uncertainty analysis using tools such as SCALE SAM or TSUNAMI

Conduct benchmark comparisons including ICSBF, Serpent benchmarks, MCNP benchmarks, and critical experiments

Documentation and Communication

Prepare technical reports, calculation packages, and design documentation suitable for regulated and auditable environments

Present findings in internal design reviews and to external stakeholders

Qualifications

Required

Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Engineering Physics, Reactor Physics, or a related field

At least two years of relevant experience in industry, research, or graduate level work

Demonstrated experience with at least one major neutronics code including OpenMC, Serpent2, MCNP, SCALE, DRAGON, the MOOSE suite, or other named neutronics and nodal diffusion codes

Strong programming and automation skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar tools

Solid understanding of reactor physics fundamentals including cross sections, transport theory, diffusion theory, burnup, kinetics, and reactivity feedback

Ability to produce clear and defensible technical documentation

Nice to Have

Experience with microreactors, space reactors, or fast spectrum systems

Experience with multiphysics coupling such as OpenMC MOOSE or Serpent CFD workflows

Familiarity with nuclear safety analysis, extreme environment reactor design, or shielding analysis

Experience with high performance computing environments

Knowledge of CSA N286 or N299, NQA 1, or other regulated quality frameworks

Why Join CSMC
