BDS is seeking experienced Class 1 Winch Truck and Lowbed Drivers to join our Heavy Haul Operations team. As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for the safe loading, transportation, and delivery of oversized and specialized equipment used throughout the oil and gas, construction, and industrial sectors. This position involves hauling equipment across Western Canada and, on occasion, into the United States.
Location
This position is based out of our Acheson, Alberta location. Due to dispatch requirements, successful candidates must reside within a 100 km radius or approximately one hour's drive of our terminal.
Responsibilities
- Operate Class 1 winch trucks and lowbed combinations safely and professionally.
- Load, unload, winch, and secure heavy equipment and oversized loads in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Transport heavy haul and specialized equipment throughout Western Canada and the United States.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, including hazard assessments.
- Ensure all cargo securement, weight distribution, and dimensional requirements comply with provincial, federal, and client regulations.
- Complete driver logs using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) and maintain all required transportation documentation.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, field crews, clients, and regulatory personnel.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report mechanical concerns promptly.
- Perform all duties with personal, public, and environmental safety as the highest priority.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 Driver's Licence.
- Current 5-year commercial driver's abstract.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating winch trucks, lowbeds, or heavy haul equipment.
- Experience transporting oilfield equipment, shacks, modules, counterweights, tanks, and oversized loads.
- Strong knowledge of cargo securement, load weights, dimensions, and permitting requirements.
- Experience using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home for extended periods.
- Familiarity with Western Canadian routes and regulations.
- Valid passport is considered an asset.
- Oilfield experience and current safety certifications are considered assets.
- Mountain driving experience is considered an asset.
