- Lead and support marine biological assessments, environmental impact studies, and habitat restoration projects.
- Plan and conduct field surveys, including marine habitat mapping, species inventories, and water quality monitoring.
- Analyze and interpret data to develop technical reports and recommendations for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Manage projects, budgets, and timelines while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior staff.
- Liaise with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project success and regulatory compliance.
- A degree in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (M.Sc. preferred).
- Registered as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBIO), or pending application
- 7-15 years of related experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
- Strong knowledge of marine ecosystems, regulatory frameworks, and environmental assessment processes.
- Experience conducting and/or coordinating environmental monitoring of marine construction or dredging, water quality monitoring, sediment sampling, intertidal and subtidal biophysical surveys, underwater video or remotely operated vehicle surveys, species at risk desktop and field assessments, fish detection surveys, underwater noise monitoring and marine mammal observing.
- experience in leading the preparation of or being a professional of record on technical reports and plans used to obtain environmental approvals or comply with permit or contract requirements, such as: aquatic effects and residual impact assessments and other environmental assessments; environmental management and/or protection plans; habitat offsetting plans and habitat balance tables; fish and fish habitat monitoring plans; and construction monitoring reports to meet approval requirements.
- Experience in marine fieldwork, including diving (scientific diving certification is an asset), ROV surveys, or remote sensing techniques.
- Excellent technical writing skills, with a proven ability to prepare environmental reports and permit applications.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
