Our client, Evergreen Building Maintenance, has provided commercial cleaning and janitorial services across British Columbia and Western Canada for more than 35 years, with a reputation for consistent service, hands-on leadership, and environmentally responsible cleaning practices. Evergreen is seeking a dedicated and experienced Night Supervisor to oversee custodial operations during the night shift at a large facility in Kelowna, BC. This part-time role (20-25 hours per week) is well suited to an organized, dependable leader who is comfortable managing night operations in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will lead a team of 30-40 employees, maintain service standards, and provide hands-on support to ensure the site is prepared for the next day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site Operations: Oversee nightly operations to ensure client requirements and service standards are consistently met.
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and support cleaning staff, team leads, and project personnel.
- Performance Management: Provide coaching, reinforce company policies, and address performance concerns as needed.
- Problem Solving: Address operational issues, adapt to changing priorities, and implement practical solutions.
- Emergency Response: Respond to urgent janitorial needs and after-hours issues during the shift to help maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Inventory & Supplies: Manage cleaning inventory and supplies to support efficient service delivery.
- Safety & Quality: Monitor compliance with site safety procedures, inspect cleaning quality, and take corrective action where required.
- Client Service: Maintain positive client relationships and respond to concerns or feedback in a timely manner.
- Cost Control: Monitor operational costs and support efficient use of labour, materials, and equipment.
- Hands-On Support: Provide direct site support as needed to maintain smooth operations.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar supervisory role, preferably in a commercial or industrial cleaning environment.
- Experience leading teams, ideally including unionized employees.
- Strong knowledge of employment standards and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and performance management software.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience operating janitorial equipment such as auto scrubbers, swing machines, and floor burnishers.
- Experience with project work such as floor stripping and waxing, and carpet steam extraction.
- Ability to prioritize work, solve problems, and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Post-secondary education in business or a related field is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours at a time
- Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 20+ kg as required
Schedule and Compensation:
This is a part-time opportunity, typically scheduled Wednesday to Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with some flexibility based on client needs. This role also requires after-hours availability to respond to urgent operational issues when needed. Compensation for this position ranges from $28.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on experience, with an expected start date of July 15.
