Job Summary:

Create, document, develop and implement procedures required to manufacture products and test processes.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Metallurgical Engineering Degree, Materials Engineering or Diploma from a Canadian University or College
  • 3-5 years manufacturing experience in a related field (preferably in automotive)
  • Ability to perform manual related tasks(cutting, mounting, polishing test samples, and maintain test equipment)
  • Basic machining skills a plus
  • Advanced Metallurgical testing knowledge and skills preferred
  • Experience in metallurgical testing such as hardness, Strain analysis, tensile testing, yield analysis, elongation.
  • Proficient in using X-ray equipment and handheld portable XRF analyzers
  • Solid understanding of microstructure analysis, steel grain structures, heating and cooling curves
  • Good knowledge of steel compositions and the effects on steel processing in house and at end customers
  • Plating thickness measurement and analysis
  • Understanding and knowledge of copper and nickel plating processes
  • Solid understanding of Nylon materials and testing
  • Experience with Stainless Steel (304 and 316) cold rolled steel and chemistry and mechanical properties
  • Ability to measure and understand heat affected zones from welding
  • Laser welding experience in thin gage metals
  • Ability to interpret SAE and ASTM and customer specific standards and apply them to product development and testing
  • Knowledge of any applicable customer specific requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Developing, evaluating, improving and documenting manufacturing processes.
  • Developing and implementing process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments
  • Analysing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancement of quality, cost reduction and throughput.
  • Collaborating with configuration control and design engineering regarding product tooling and design to ensure effectual production methods.
  • Conferring with vendors in determining product specifications and arranging equipment, parts, material purchase, and evaluating products accordingly to quality standards and specifications.
  • Working closely with manufacturing department to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
  • Providing engineering and quality support in production department to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Supporting company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Required to work extra hours and travel to meet Customer needs.
  • All other reasonable duties and responsibilities assigned as deemed necessary by Supervisor.
  • Ability to solve material related problems of moderate complexity
  • Provides technical solutions and guidance in relation to stainless steel
  • Develops detailed understanding of process flow and operations of SS mills
  • Perform various mechanical Engineering projects and Material Testing
  • Collects and analyzes data presenting reports in requested formats effectively
  • Provides materials analysis support with the manufacturing departments
  • Performs failure testing and analysis for understanding of material properties in raw materials received for part forming from outside suppliers
  • Liaison with materials group for materials related concerns and changes.
  • Liaison with Auburn Hills Engineering and Quality Group for material content changes and affects to tubing production operations
  • Confirm Materials properties on materials received for forming operations
  • Knowledge of customer specifications
  • Develop Materials system to understand and predict materials impact as it relates to materials forming operations
  • Operate and maintain testing and analysis equipment
  • Develop optimum guidelines for material forming operations and tooling operation.
  • Performs various metallurgical and non-destructive testing and report findings
  • Operate testing equipment
  • Support Business Plan as well as special projects.

Work Environment:

  • 50% office, 50% plant floor (PPE required)

Health and Safety:
