About the Project:
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.
Position Overview:
The Elevated Guideway Construction Lead is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of elevated guideway construction works across a major rail transit infrastructure project delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP).
This role oversees construction of piers, columns, foundations, pier caps, segmental girders, precast elements, and deck systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of the elevated rail structure. The position plays a critical role in managing complex sequencing, heavy lifting operations, and integration with stations, utilities, and rail systems.
Working within a complex design-build, the Elevated Guideway Construction Lead coordinates closely with engineering, construction, and systems teams to ensure the guideway is delivered in alignment with project milestones and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Construction Leadership & Delivery
- Lead execution of elevated guideway construction including:
- Foundations and substructure (piles, footings, piers, columns)
- Superstructure (pier caps, girders, segmental spans, decks)
- Precast and cast-in-place concrete elements
- Manage construction teams, superintendents, and field personnel responsible for guideway works.
- Ensure alignment of guideway construction with overall corridor schedule and project milestones.
Planning, Sequencing & Logistics
- Develop and implement construction sequencing strategies for elevated works, including segment erection and launching operations.
- Coordinate heavy lifting activities, crane operations, and specialized erection equipment.
- Manage logistics, access constraints, and staging in urban corridor environments.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate interfaces between guideway construction and:
- Station structures and access points
- Utility relocations and corridor works
- Trackwork and rail systems (OCS, signaling, communications)
- Ensure structural readiness for subsequent installation of track and systems components.
Construction Execution & Field Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day construction activities to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Conduct site inspections, progress reviews, and coordination meetings.
- Monitor quality of concrete works, precast installations, and structural tolerances.
- Resolve field issues, constructability challenges, and sequencing conflicts.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to safety standards, particularly for working at height, lifting operations, and heavy construction activities.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, structural design requirements, and applicable codes.
- Support QA/QC processes including inspections, testing, and documentation.
Schedule, Cost & Commercial Management
- Monitor construction progress against schedule and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support development of budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
- Manage subcontractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Assist with change management, variations, and claims related to guideway works.
Stakeholder & Interface Management
- Coordinate with municipalities, traffic management teams, and stakeholders to manage impacts to roads and surrounding communities.
- Support coordination with authorities having jurisdiction for permits and approvals.
- Communicate construction impacts and mitigation strategies as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience (812+ years preferred) in heavy civil or structural construction, particularly elevated or bridge structures.
- Experience with segmental construction, precast systems, or large concrete structures is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in design-build and/or P3 infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
Experience on rail, transit, highway, or major corridor projects is an asset.
Strong leadership and field management capabilities.
Deep understanding of structural construction methods and sequencing.
Experience managing complex logistics and constrained urban worksites.
Strong coordination skills across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency with project management and reporting tools (e.g., MS Office, scheduling software).- Safety-focused, proactive, and results-driven mindset
