Fleet Manager

Our client, an Canadian based organization operating within the transportation and industrial services sector, is seeking a Fleet Manager to lead the performance, availability, and lifecycle management of a large and diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role is responsible for overseeing fleet operations ensuring seamless day-to-day execution. The position plays a key role in optimizing asset utilization, managing vendor relationships, and driving operational efficiency. This is a highly visible, on-site leadership role with direct impact on business performance.
The Role:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of logistics coordinators, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and performance expectations
- Oversee the day-to-day management of a large fleet of vehicles and equipment, ensuring optimal utilization, uptime, and reliability
- Coordinate and manage third-party transportation and service providers to meet operational demands
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend asset life
- Monitor fleet performance metrics, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, logistics, and finance teams to align fleet strategy with business needs
- Manage inventory of fleet-related parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring accuracy and availability
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, regulatory, and operational standards
- Support budgeting, cost tracking, and vendor negotiations to optimize fleet-related spend
- Maintain accurate records related to maintenance, inspections, and asset lifecycle tracking
The Ideal Candidate:
- Proven experience leading fleet operations, including vehicles and/or heavy equipment
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance programs and asset lifecycle management
- Experience managing third-party vendors or transportation providers
- Solid inventory management experience related to fleet parts, tools, and equipment
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach
- Comfortable operating in a tactical, on-site leadership role with shifting priorities
- Proficiency with fleet management systems or related operational software
- Knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory requirements related to fleet operations
