Position: Vice President, Communications & External Affairs

Location: Calgary, AB (Global Scope)

Reports to: Chief Corporate Officer (CCO)

About the Role

The Vice President, Communications & External Affairs will lead our global communications, government relations, and brand management function at a pivotal stage of growth.

This role is critical to shaping and amplifying our position as a global leader in next-generation geothermal energy. The VP will drive a clear, consistent narrative that supports our business strategy, enhances our brand, strengthens stakeholder relationships, and enables successful financing and growth.

The successful candidate will operate as a key member of the executive leadership team, balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution, and serving as a trusted advisor to the CCO and executive team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction on an integrated global communications strategy aligned with corporate priorities and business evolution
  • Ensure clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across all internal and external channels
  • Position the company as a global thought leader in clean energy and next-generation geothermal
  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for executive communications, including messaging, presentations, and thought leadership

External Affairs & Government Relations

  • Lead global government relations strategy, focused on advancing policy alignment and securing funding opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across federal, provincial/state, and international governments
  • Oversee external advisors (e.g., lobbyists, agencies) to ensure coordinated, high-impact advocacy
  • Provide strategic guidance on regulatory, political, and reputational risks

Media Relations & Brand Positioning

  • Drive proactive media strategy to enhance visibility, credibility, and share of voice in priority markets
  • Oversee brand positioning and messaging to reflect the companys evolution toward a technology licensing and services model
  • Lead high-impact campaigns supporting key milestones (e.g., financing, product launches, major projects)
  • Act as a spokesperson as appropriate

Internal Communications & Culture

  • Develop and implement an internal communications strategy that drives alignment, engagement, and transparency
  • Ensure employees are informed, aligned, and empowered as brand ambassadors
  • Partner with the People & Culture team and leadership to reinforce culture, values, and organizational priorities

Marketing & Corporate Brand

  • Oversee strategic marketing and brand initiatives, ensuring a disciplined, high-impact approach
  • Provide strategic oversight on the development of core brand assets (website, content, visual identity, campaigns)
  • Ensure alignment between communications, marketing, and business development efforts

Governance & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain communications and external affairs governance frameworks, including policies, procedures, and playbooks
  • Ensure consistency, quality, and risk management across all external communications
  • Oversee crisis communications planning and execution

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Communications & External Affairs team, aligned to corporate priorities
  • Establish clear roles, accountabilities, and performance expectations across the function
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to build team capability and bench strength
  • Ensure the function is appropriately resourced and structured to deliver on strategic objectives

  • Support corporate financing efforts through targeted, high-impact communications
  • Elevate global visibility and credibility in key markets
  • Advance government relations priorities, including funding and policy alignment
  • Strengthen communications governance and operational discipline
  • Align communications with the companys evolving business model and growth strategy

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in business, communications, external affairs or government relations
  • Experience in energy, infrastructure, clean technology, or similarly complex, regulated industries is preferred
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communications and external affairs programs at a global level
  • Strong experience supporting capital raises, major transactions, or high-growth environments
  • Understanding of government relations, policy development, and/or stakeholder engagement
  • Executive presence with an ability to advise and influence senior leadership and Boards
