Grade 8 Science TutorJob Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Grade 8 Science Tutor to provide personalized, in-person tutoring services to middle school students in Vancouver. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners' academic success while fostering their curiosity and understanding of scientific concepts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging one-on-one or small group science tutoring sessions for Grade 8 students
  • Assess individual student learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly
  • Develop customized lesson plans aligned with BC Grade 8 science curriculum standards
  • Explain complex scientific concepts in clear, age-appropriate language
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students and parents
  • Prepare students for tests, quizzes, and science fair projects
  • Create interactive learning experiences using hands-on experiments and demonstrations
  • Maintain detailed records of tutoring sessions and student advancement
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience tutoring or teaching middle school students
  • Strong knowledge of Grade 8 science curriculum including biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience and ability to work effectively with adolescent learners
  • Reliable transportation for in-person tutoring sessions in Vancouver
  • Clear criminal background check
  • Availability for evening and weekend tutoring sessions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching certification or education degree
  • Experience with BC provincial curriculum and assessment standards
  • Previous experience working with students who have learning differences
  • Bilingual capabilities (English and additional languages)
  • Experience with science fair mentoring and project development
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in educational technology and online learning platforms
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and equipment handling
  • Ability to use digital tools for progress tracking and communication
  • Familiarity with scientific calculators and measurement tools
  • Basic computer skills for lesson planning and resource development
