Criminal Defence Lawyer

About the Role

A growing criminal defence firm is seeking a Criminal Defence Lawyer to join its Medicine Hat office. The firm represents clients across Alberta and appears regularly in Provincial Court and the Court of King's Bench.

This position is open to all experience levels-from newly called lawyers to experienced counsel.

You will have the opportunity to build and run your own files while gaining consistent courtroom exposure.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in bail hearings, trials, sentencings, and appeals
• Manage criminal files from intake to resolution
• Review disclosure and prepare defence strategies
• Conduct legal research and draft submissions
• Appear in court in Medicine Hat and throughout Alberta (including circuit courts)
• Communicate effectively with clients, Crown, and the Court

Qualifications

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta (or eligible for transfer)
• Interest or experience in criminal law
• Strong advocacy and communication skills
• Ability to manage a fast-paced caseload
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel
• Active status on the Criminal Roster with Legal Aid Alberta is considered a strong asset
