We are seeking a strategic and commercially driven leader to join our organization as Contracts & Commercial Manager (Canada). In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping and strengthening commercial governance, risk management, and contractual strategy across a growing and dynamic construction portfolio. As a trusted advisor to senior leadership, you will influence key business decisions, protect organizational interests, and drive consistency and excellence in commercial practices across the Canadian operations.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the SVP, Commercial & Compliance, the Contracts & Commercial Manager (Canada) provides strategic leadership over commercial risk, contract governance, and compliance across the Canadian group of companies. This role is accountable for establishing and advancing best practices that strengthen contractual integrity, mitigate risk, and support complex commercial negotiations, disputes, and insurance-related matters.
As a key business partner, this role drives consistency, enhances operational governance, and safeguards the organizations interests while enabling scalable growth, informed decision-making, and long-term commercial sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in conjunction with various Canadian business units to understand current processes and work toward achievement of formulating policies for consistency in standards, protocols and procedures regarding various business activities.
- Actively participate in industry associations, meetings and events to continue to establish positive relationships with key stakeholders in the industry and to understand changing needs and regulations in the construction industry in our operating jurisdictions
- Communicate updates to address industry changes within the Canadian jurisdiction to the wider group
- Providing support through the review and mitigation of risk through negotiation of contracts and agreements for Canadian business units
- Identifying the need for various agreements or contracts with suppliers and vendors, as required.
- Handling and escalation of commercial disputes related to accounts receivable, liens, claims, arbitration, mediation and litigation
- Assist other departments and business units with legal and commercial support (internal or external), as required.
- Assist with the annual review and renewal of insurance policies and programs for the Canadian group of companies
- Set up and maintain a centralized data center of various company documents (including, but not limited to policies, material contracts, lease agreements)
- Ensure that businesses are in compliance from a regulatory perspective (business registrations, filings etc.)
- Support standardized monthly reporting regarding commercial issues & updates
- Implement governance through the implementation of global policies across the Canadian business functions which are consistent with the larger group
- Support integration as new acquisitions are being onboarded and participate in supporting new teams and work streams when these events are ongoing
- Ensure that customer service remains at the highest of levels to continue to maintain positive working relationships in the industry
- Other duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or related field
- 10 years industry experience in a commercial, contract, estimating or operations role within the construction sector
- Strong negotiation skills, with proven ability to drive successful outcomes
- Familiarity with the Construction Act, Ontario
- Comprehensive understanding and of liability allocation, indemnities, insurance interfaces, regulatory compliance
- Strong communication skills including reading, writing, verbal, and comprehension
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software. Experience with construction management software is a plus.
- Oversees daytoday team operations, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities
