Location: We are seeking an experienced Cook for our Niagara Falls Convention Centre.
Compensation: $20-$22/hour
Unit Information: We are steps from the natural wonder of Niagara Falls and in the heart of Canada's premier wine and culinary region. Our state-of-the-art venue boasts open, flexible meeting space without a pillar in sight, all within walking distance of 4,000 branded hotel rooms.
Principal Function:
The Cook will contribute to Sodexo Live!'s operational and financial success by following all Sodexo Live! culinary standards for sanitation and preparation, and by guiding other Culinary staff members to ensure that food product is of the highest quality in taste and appearance, to satisfy guest expectations and to maximize food revenues.
Essential Responsibilities:
Prepare and coordinate orders to ensure they are cooked timely and with accuracy and prepared with the absolute highest quality of taste and presentation.
- Comply with all established health, sanitation and safety procedures.
- Set up and stock station and ensure other work areas are stocked accordingly as directed by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef.
- Assist with re-stocking of equipment, supplies and food items as needed.
- Adhere to Sodexo Live! standards for food quality, taste, flavour and presentation
- Ensure that food is portioned and presented according to standards, as well as guest specifications and preferences; Inspect portions and appearance of food prepared by other staff members, as directed by Executive Chef or Sous Chef to ensure consistent adherence to Sodexo Live! standards for food quality.
- Work in collaboration with other unit culinary team members to achieve operational objectives.
- Apply consistent focus on the customer by paying close attention to detail, accommodating special requests and never allowing less than perfect food product to leave the kitchen.
- Participate in and foster positive team relations with both front and back of the house staff.
- Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required from time to time.
- Contribute to goal of 100% customer satisfaction through personal commitment to customer service and leading the culinary team by example.
Qualifications/Skills:
Required:
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience in food preparation in a fast paced environment.
- Proficient English communication skills in order to effectively interact verbally and listen attentively to co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to follow written and oral direction.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Proven experience in banquet service and high-volume plated meal production
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations and food safety standards
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
Preferred:
- Culinary degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working in a high-volume operation such as a high-end hotel, rlarge event venues or convention centre.
- Food Safe Certification.
- Knowledge of batch cooking and large-scale food production techniques
- Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail during high-volume service
Other Requirements:
Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift. Must be able to frequently lift and carry food and other items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally greater. Must be able to go from warm to cold climates (workstation to coolers).
Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
