Our client, a growing, privately held engineering and manufacturing organization, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and execution of highly customized industrial equipment within an engineer-to-order (ETO) environment.
This role is responsible for delivering practical, compliant mechanical designs across the full project lifecycle from concept development through fabrication, testing, and commissioning. The position requires a strong balance of engineering design expertise and hands-on fabrication awareness, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
  • Design custom equipment, including pressure vessels, piping systems, and skid-mounted process equipment
  • Interpret client specifications, contracts, and technical requirements
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Support or perform stress, thermal, and vibration analysis as required
Codes & Compliance
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, including:
    • ASME Section VIII
    • ASME B31.3
    • CSA and applicable regulatory codes
Execution & Collaboration
  • Work closely with drafting teams to produce fabrication drawings and BOMs
  • Partner with project management to align with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Support vendor selection and technical bid evaluations
  • Participate in design reviews, P&IDs, and risk assessments (e.g., HAZOPs)
Fabrication Support
  • Provide technical support to the shop and production teams
  • Resolve design-related issues during fabrication
  • Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with shop capabilities
Project Lifecycle
  • Support projects through fabrication, testing, commissioning, and field activities as required
Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to process improvements, design standardization, and product development initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility in Alberta
  • 5-10 years of experience in custom manufacturing or ETO environments
  • Experience in energy, industrial, or heavy manufacturing sectors preferred
Desired Technical Experience
  • Design of pressure vessels, piping systems, and process equipment
  • Strong understanding of ASME and CSA codes and standards
  • Experience supporting fabrication and production teams
  • Familiarity with P&IDs and modular/skid-based systems
  • Exposure to engineering tools such as ANSYS, CAESAR II, or similar (asset)

  • Based in Calgary, with time split between office and active fabrication environment
