Civil Construction Labourer

Harbour Construction is looking for hardworking, reliable Labourers to join our Civil Construction team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, works well as part of a crew, and wants to build a career in heavy civil construction. Our Labourers support the construction of underground infrastructure, roads, utilities, excavation projects, and other civil construction work across Nova Scotia.

As a Civil Construction Labourer, youll work alongside experienced operators, foremen, and pipe crews on active construction sites helping complete important infrastructure projects safely and efficiently.

What Youll Be Doing

• Perform general labour duties on active civil construction sites
• Support excavation, trenching, underground utility installation, and backfilling activities
• Assist with installation of PVC, HDPE, and concrete pipe
• Prepare pipe bedding and compact materials using hand tools and compactors
• Support grading, site preparation, and road construction activities
• Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment
• Maintain clean and organized worksites
• Work safely around heavy equipment and active excavation areas
• Follow daily work plans, site instructions, and safety procedures
• Wear and maintain required PPE at all times
• Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions immediately

What Were Looking For

• Previous experience in civil construction, underground services, excavation, roadbuilding, or infrastructure work is considered an asset
• Experience with trenching, pipe installation, asphalt, or concrete work is an asset
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, compactors, and other construction equipment safely
• Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to work sites preferred

Work Environment

This position is based on active heavy civil construction sites and involves physically demanding outdoor work year-round. Work may include lifting, shoveling, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and working around trenches, underground utilities, heavy equipment, mud, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.

Standard work hours are generally Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however overtime and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.
