ROLE

Playing an important part in the design team, the Junior Mechanical Designer is a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions from the Intermediate/Senior team members or Project Manager with general supervision. The Junior Mechanical Designer will prepare drawings of existing building systems and prepare drawings for renovations and new construction projects of moderate complexity based on verbal instructions, sketches and/or formal documents. The position also requires preparing plans, section details, filling out equipment schedules, and other drawings for construction, performing inspections of existing facilities, accompanied by intermediate/senior team members, to determine and verify existing systems and details, and utilizing design technology & software.

EDUCATION / LICENSING / CERTIFICATION

  • Diploma – Technologist, Mechanical / Building Science / Building Systems
  • Project Portfolio to demonstrate CAD and Revit experience and capabilities
  • Driver's License

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 0-4 years in the engineering consulting industry
  • Experience in complex systems design such as laboratories, healthcare, institutional, and civic projects would be considered an asset
  • Basic understanding of HVAC, Hydronic systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems design required
  • Experience working on LEED and NetZero projects would be considered an asset
  • Experience with energy modelling software such as IES, eQuest, and RETscreen would be considered an asset
  • Basic understanding and experience with BIM REVIT MEP is required

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Assist and perform small equipment selection, with direction from Senior Engineer such as – diffusers, variable air volume boxes, terminal heating equipment, air valves, heat pumps, fans, etc
  • Assist with design layouts and calculations of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and controls for small/mid/large scale projects.
  • Fluency with BIM REVIT MEP, AutoCAD, and MS Office
  • Support Construction Administration team in the review and issuance of documents such as RFI response, CCO's, CO's, shop drawing review.
  • Assist with the coordination of project information, under supervision of senior team member, received from other design disciplines, including but not limited to, architectural, electrical, structural, and civil as required
  • Strong communication skills with internal teammates
  • Assist with the coordination of information received from suppliers, contractors, and other design disciplines under the supervision of a senior team member
  • Assist senior team members in construction review and collaborate with team members to issue necessary documentation
