Description

The Electrical Engineer (Motor Control PCB) will report to the Research and Development Manager and work closely with the R&D team to design and test PCBs for linear actuator motor control. This role involves both hands-on design and collaboration with firmware, mechanical, and product teams to bring high-quality motor control systems from concept to production.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in motor control PCB design, a methodical engineering approach, and the ability to see products through the full lifecycle starting from requirements gathering to product ready for sale.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as Product Owner for developing, procuring, and launching motor control boxes (Linear Actuator Controllers and Control Boxes - Progressive Automations). This includes coordinating prototyping, assembly, and procurement of inventory.
  • Primary focus will be on PCB Design and layout.
  • Design cost-effective control systems for mass production, selecting components based on availability and cost-effectiveness for both local and overseas manufacturing.
  • Establish systems and procedures to ensure quality, knowledge retention, and continuous improvement within the team.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Design new products and improve legacy motor control boxes.
  • Build test equipment and conduct in-house product stress testing.
  • Lead in-house product assembly and QC testing in collaboration with the QC engineer.
  • Produce technical datasheets, instruction manuals, and internal education packages in collaboration with the Product Launch team.
  • Lead internal product education campaigns.
  • Integrate the following technologies into product designs:
    • RF control
    • Wi-Fi
    • Thread Matter
    • Bluetooth
    • CANBUS / MODBUS compatibility

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Strong knowledge and experience in motor controls and noise cancellation.
  • Understanding of the full lifecycle of product development, from requirements through to production.
  • Minimum 5 years of PCB design experience.
  • Minimum bachelors degree in electrical engineering.
  • Methodical, organized approach to testing documentation, revision logging, and traceability.
  • Strong time management, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with both local and overseas teams.

Nice To Have

  • Familiarity with Microchip MCUs and their integration into motor control systems.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer for PCB design.
  • Solid C/C++ programming skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience with documentation standards and use of SVN for version control.
  • Methodical, organized approach to testing documentation, revision logging, and traceability.
  • Knowledge of North American manufacturing standards and certifications.
