The Maintenance Technician I position is a full-time permanent opportunity based at our Distribution Centre Warehouse located at 950 Southgate Dr, Guelph, ON N1L 1S7. The applicant will be on a Continental Day/Night Shift rotation starting at 6:30a.m./p.m.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for electromechanical maintenance throughout the entire facility, the ammonia refrigeration system, the MHE and the ASRS equipment and performing general maintenance tasks throughout the facility. This position will require flexibility to assist in scheduled shift coverage as well as off shift breakdowns as needed. The successful candidate is required to have strong troubleshooting abilities and is a self-starting technician who has the ability to make decisions with the information at hand.

Required Skills:

  • Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician (309A or 442A OR Certificate of Qualification as a Millwright (433A or 426A).
  • Formal and working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards.
  • Understanding of Electrical Safety in an industrial environment.
  • Experienced with machine safety controls and Electrical codes.
  • Experience with variable frequency drive (VFD) and Soft Start motor control.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Refrigeration Operator B Class with ammonia refrigeration experience is considered an asset.
  • 3rd or 4th year apprentice in the mandatory trade qualifications listed is considered an asset.
  • Experience with projects and working with contractors is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated diagnostic skills in process instrumentation and mechanical maintenance is considered an asset.
  • HK Systems equipment specific training is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Repair and maintain warehouse/facility issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical equipment.
  • Perform PM work order duties as assigned through the CMMS
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment and repair as needed.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery.
  • Maintain ammonia refrigeration equipment including compressors, evaporators, condensers and pumps.
  • Maintain Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) equipment including pallet conveyors and pallet lift conveyors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment, including Freq. drives and PLCs would be considered an asset.
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
  • Work with the operational (floor) supervisors to ensure breakdowns effecting production are remedied ASAP.
  • Execute planned projects, equipment installations and other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Flexibility to work all shifts when scheduled for vacation coverage or as required.
  • Closely reports all maintenance and parts usage, develops appropriate documentation.
  • Diagnoses problems for resolution.

Working conditions

  • Periods of sitting, with focus on stationary tasks and computer screens.
  • Ability to walk around a 200,000sqft warehouse and perform manual tasks as required.
  • Ability to bend, squat, twist, and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work in environments with temperatures as low as -22 degrees Celsius.
