THE POSITION
The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a key role in developing innovative, multidisciplinary products that incorporate plastics, metals, optics, and electromechanical components and mechanisms. From concept through to production, you will lead the mechanical design process, define technical requirements, prototype, and create detailed CAD models and drawings. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will support product verification, resolve engineering challenges, and ensure successful transfer to manufacturing. This role requires a balance of creativity, technical expertise, and hands-on problem-solving to deliver high-performance solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING AN IMPACT
- Lead design of complex, multidisciplinary devices.
- Define technical requirements for new products.
- Design innovative components and mechanisms utilizing knowledge and experience with plastics, metals, optics, and electromechanical systems.
- Create detailed mechanical assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks.
- Develop verification plans and support testing in the onsite prototyping lab.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Quality teams to resolve engineering issues and support procurement.
- Oversee product transfer to manufacturing and support field implementation.
- Conduct design and technical reviews throughout development.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Deliver innovative, manufacturable designs that meet all requirements.
- Produce accurate CAD models and drawings with minimal rework.
- Define clear, complete product and technical requirements.
- Apply best practices across materials and manufacturing methods.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve design challenges.
- Complete projects on time, meeting quality and cost targets.
- Ensure smooth product hand-off to manufacturing.
- Validate designs through testing and rapid prototyping.
- Drive improvements through design reviews and data analysis.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders to stay aligned.
- Take initiative and solve problems in fast-paced cycles.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU REQUIRE
- BSc. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong creative skills for innovative product development.
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
- Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD software, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated with a diligent work ethic and ability to work independently.
- Willing and able to travel within Canada, the USA, and internationally as needed.
