About the opportunity:
The Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the effective and efficient operation of the City's health and safety programs in line with recognized best practices, established contracts, and legislation. This position assists with the development and implementation of various elements of the City's Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with all relevant WorkSafe and Technical Safety regulations. The Advisor actively promotes safety by participating in all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety programs. This includes conducting regular inspections, investigations, hazard and risk assessments, toolbox meetings, observations, and Field Level Risk Assessments. Additionally, the incumbent provides education and guidance for all safety programs.
About your background:
You have completed a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and/or Safety from an accredited post-secondary institution. A safety-related professional designation, such as CRSP or CHSC, would be an asset. You should have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the health and safety field. Equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience may also be considered. Experience working within the Worker's Compensation Act and the WorkSafe BC OHS Regulations is essential. A demonstrated ability to provide a customer-focused approach to service delivery is required to support employees and Occupational Health & Safety Committee representatives. Additionally, you have experience in developing an OH&S safety program and managing related software. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License (or out of province equivalent) is required.
