We are looking for Crisis Workers - Relief to join our Crisis Services team!

Reporting to the Program Manager and supported by Team Leads, Crisis Workers work in a 24/7 work environment. The incumbent should have flexibility for various shifts including some weekdays, overnights and weekends. Due to the nature of this position, they will be called in on an as-needed basis. Relief staff are expected to work a minimum of two full shifts per month.

Status: Relief, 12 hours shifts including weekdays, overnights, weekends

Hourly rate: $38.60 - $44.83 (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting rate)

Location: 60 West Drive, Brampton. Due to the nature of the program, this role is on-site and community based.

What you will do

  • Provide immediate crisis line response, initial triage, crisis stabilizationand development of intervention plans
  • Provide needed assistance and follow-up post crisis with telephone check-ins, mobile crisis response or by connecting clients to appropriate follow-up agencies/networks
  • Conduct risk and safety assessments, mental status examinations, promote healthy coping strategies, and assist in developing follow-up and safety plans for clients in the community
  • Work side by side in ride alongs with police officers and other crisis support workers in completing mobile crisis intervention assessments
  • Form collaborative relationships with CMHA colleaguesand strong partnerships with hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and mental health and social service agencies to build an effective delivery of crisis service in the community
  • Assist in identifying and developing goals towards understanding prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals with mental illness and addiction concerns
  • Participate in agency and community meetings, committees and workgroups as requested by manager

What you need to join our team

  • University Degree in Social Work, BSc. Nursing, or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Must be a Regulated Health Professional (Registered Nurse, Registered Psychotherapist or Registered Occupational Therapist) or Registered Social Worker and adhere to standards of practice as per designated college OR eligible and willing to become regulated health professional or RSW within first 6 months of employment
  • Minimum 3years of experience working in acute mental health sector, preferably in the community
  • Flexibility to work 12-hour shifts on an on-call basis; including weekdays, overnights and weekends
  • Experience with crisis intervention techniques and theory-based practice in working with the seriously mentally ill, including a good understanding of the Mental Health Act and DSM V as it relates to crisis
  • Knowledge on risk assessments, suicide prevention, and principles of crisis theory and intervention
  • Experience intervening effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour
  • Comfortable workingon the phone and in person in potentially high risk and stressful situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.
  • Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework
  • Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset
  • Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report and provide fingerprints to Peel Regional Police
