Position Overview
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Telecom Design Engineer to join their Calgary-based engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, technically advanced environment where you will be engaged in all stages of the engineering and design process.
As a Telecom Design Engineer, you will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of infrastructure for HFC networks. You will oversee network planning, conduct site surveys, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and maintain accurate records. In addition, you will mentor and guide a team of designers, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and design HFC networks, including cable type selection, sizing, and routing.
Identify optimal pathways for cable placement, address potential conflicts, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
Review completed designs for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with specifications.
Ensure quality standards and design requirements are met.
Mentor and coach designers, providing guidance on standards and best practices.
Conduct surveys of existing infrastructure to determine optimal locations for new cables and equipment.
Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure timely installation and maintenance.
Review and approve final QA/QC documentation prior to submission.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years' experience in HFC network design.
At least 2 years of experience leading a team of designers or EITs.
Strong knowledge of HFC network architecture, components, industry standards, and regulations.
Proficiency in software such as AutoDesign, IQGeo, Comsof, ARMIS, ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, and other relevant tools.
Experience with Shaw/Rogers infrastructure planning and design is preferred.
