Our client is searching for a strategic and forward-thinking Manager, Accounting Projects and Innovation to lead financial systems and process improvements across their Northern Alberta operations. This role is responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing accounting processes and digital systems that enhance operational efficiency. Reporting to the Regional Controller, the manager will act as a financial subject matter expert, supporting cross-functional teams and leading project initiatives from concept to execution. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in financial systems, project management, and innovation, with experience in real estate development or related industries.
Your success will be defined by your ability to:
- Understand and translate financial and technical requirements into system specifications and documentation
- Analyze and improve manual and automated accounting workflows and reporting systems
- Prioritize and lead projects based on ROI, resource availability, and strategic value
- Collaborate with operations and business units to evaluate and implement digital technologies
- Support system implementations and regional go-live activities
- Develop and lead a project management office, including oversight of project managers and business analysts
- Facilitate cross-functional reporting initiatives and maintain best practices for data-driven reporting
- Deliver presentations, training, and communications to stakeholders
- Identify opportunities for performance improvement and apply creative problem-solving techniques
- Stay current with system updates, features, and best practices
- Bachelor's degree in commerce or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in real estate development
- Expertise in accounting systems (job costing, GL, payables/receivables, financial analysis)
- Experience with SharePoint workflows and project integrations
- Familiarity with multi-enterprise structures and ERP systems (NewStar or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SQL for report building
- Knowledge of payable automation systems (e.g., IPAS)
- Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and influence across departments
- Satisfactory criminal record check
