Cybersecurity Engineer

The Cybersecurity Engineer will focus on proactive defense, building secure systems that prevent cyber threats before they occur. They will maintain, enhance and modernize Gore Mutual's Security systems and platforms and ensure Cloud and Infrastructure Engineering initiatives align with industry accepted best practices. As a subject matter expert for cyber security, maintain currency and provide leadership and mentoring to others within technology and operational teams, and participate in continuous development of the security program's maturity.

What will you do?

  • Support software engineering and Infrastructure as Code pipelines by enabling and supporting DevSecOps capabilities.
  • Proactively scan, identify, and assess security posture across networks, hosts, resources and cloud platforms.
  • Monitor external sources for the latest security advisories and trends.
  • Work with infrastructure, network and cloud teams to ensure compliance with hardening standards while eliminating misconfigurations and other weaknesses.
  • Support the assessment and development of architecture standards and patterns with reference to strong security principles.
  • Support 3rd party risk by providing technical assessment of vendor platforms, APIs, and technical designs.
  • Identify, update and maintain cybersecurity metrics, KPIs and KRIs.
  • Collaborate with IT and other teams to integrate security throughout the infrastructure.
  • Provide training and guidance on the company's security practices related to engineering and technical design.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Post Secondary diploma or degree
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Information Security experience in regulated industry like Financial Services/ Insurance.
  • Experience in IT Infrastructure and/or Cloud Engineering
  • Experience with Information Security standards and frameworks such as NIST CSF
  • Experience supporting development pipelines leveraging techniques such as SAST, DAST and DevSecOps.
  • Exposure to Azure and AWS Cloud environments with focus on security engineering using tools like Intune, Prisma Cloud & Twistlock.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview / MS Information Protection would be considered and asset.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Purview, Tenable, Prisma Cloud and Twistlock.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, and other network protocols.
  • Understanding of cloud services and infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. Familiarity with their respective security configurations, tools, and potential vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of Zero-trust concepts, SASE, firewalls, VPNs, proxies, IDS/IPS systems, and their associated configurations.
  • The ability to use scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation, data analysis, and integration tasks will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of best practices for securely configuring cloud systems, servers, applications, databases, and other systems.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex security issues and deduce the potential impacts and appropriate remediation steps.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain technical vulnerabilities to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Please note that this role operates in a hybrid environment, with one day a week expected in our Cambridge, Ontario office or Toronto, Ontario Office.
