Position: Community Support /COHI Aide and Medical Transportation Clerk
Reports To: Health Manager
Employment Type: Permanent, Part-Time (Tues, Wed, and Thurs)
Wage: $22$24/hour, based on experience
Leq:mel First Nation is located 22 kilometers east of Mission. LFN continues to assert our inherent rights of self-government over our Territory, which covers a vast area of the lower mainland. LFN has approximately 600 members and is governed by Chief and Council through Custom Election Code. Applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge of and Leq:mel culture, and traditions, and a willingness to learn.
Position Summary:
Leq:mel First Nation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the role of Community Support / COHI Aide and Medical Transportation Clerk. This is a dynamic, multi-tasking position focused on supporting community members and families in accessing health services, while also coordinating and delivering wellness-focused, community-based health promotion and prevention programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Support / Medical Transportation Clerk Duties:
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of health services and benefits offered through Leq:mel First Nation, FNHA, VCH, and Health Canada.
- Provide support and advocacy for members interacting with external health agencies and local health care providers.
- Promote and encourage community-led health initiatives and educational activities.
- Coordinate and deliver all aspects of medical transportation, including mileage reimbursement, hotel bookings, and benefits exceptions.
- Safeguard client confidentiality and securely manage sensitive information.
- Plan and coordinate a wide range of health programs and clinics, such as Health Fairs, chiropractic services, dental screenings, wellness events, diabetes awareness, and nutrition and fitness programs.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver meals to Elders within the community.
- Design event flyers and provide monthly newsletter submissions.
- Perform general administrative tasks as required.
COHI Aide Duties:
- Collaborate with schools, daycare facilities and the community to promote oral health education and preventative services.
- Deliver COHI services in accordance with Government of Canada guidelines.
- Provide fluoride varnish applications and assist oral health professionals as needed.
- Handle promotional, administrative, and support tasks related to COHI programs.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Certification and experience as a COHI Aide and Medical Transportation Clerk are considered assets.
- Valid Level C First Aid and Food Safe Level 1 certifications, or willingness to obtain.
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License and clean Drivers Abstract.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector screening).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate community health programs.
- Physically capable of performing the required duties with minimal supervision.
- A combination of education and relevant experience deemed acceptable by Leq:mel First Nation.
Working Conditions
- Office-based position with prolonged periods at a computer workstation.
- Standard work hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 AM 4:00 PM (3 days/week).
- Occasional evening and weekend hours for special events, with advance notice.
- Occasional travel may be required for training or conferences, with advance notice.
