Position Overview:

DNM Group is looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Estimator to lead and support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates across a range of projects, including site development, excavation, HVAC, plumbing, and general construction. This role requires sound technical judgment, strong analytical skills, and a solid grasp of both vertical and horizontal construction practices. The ideal candidate brings a combination of field experience and estimating knowledge to support projects from concept through to execution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage detailed cost estimates for projects involving earthworks, underground services, mechanical systems, and structural scopes.
• Interpret architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications to identify project requirements and scope.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using digital tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift), and evaluate site logistics, constructability, and geotechnical data.
• Solicit, analyze, and level quotes from subcontractors and suppliers across all relevant trades.
• Prepare internal cost breakdowns and budgets, identify potential risk items, and participate in pricing strategies and value engineering.
• Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to support collaborative and competitive bid submissions.
• Conduct site visits as required to validate bid assumptions and inform pricing strategies.
• Track and refine historical cost data, productivity metrics, and unit pricing to ensure estimating accuracy and consistency.
• Support project transitions by participating in kickoff meetings and scope handovers with field and project management teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 57+ years of estimating experience in construction, civil, or mechanical trades, with demonstrated involvement in site servicing and excavation-related projects.
• In-depth understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and industry best practices.
• Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., B2W, HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel); experience with project management software is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of local construction markets, pricing trends, and trade relationships.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
• Post-secondary education in construction management, civil engineering, quantity surveying, or a related field preferred.
• Previous field experience in construction or trades is a strong asset.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily office-based, with some travel to job sites for pre-bid assessments or clarifications.
• Fast-paced and deadline-driven environment with a mix of public and private sector projects.
