Who We Are

The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who You Are

Mikisew is currently seeking a reliable and dedicated part-time cook to support our hot lunch program initiative for the 2025/26 School Year, starting in September. This position plays a vital role in providing students with nutritious, well-rounded meals in accordance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation, a commitment to cleanliness and a passion for fostering a positive dining experience in a school environment. We run a community-based education program that focuses on land-based learning and traditional teachings, while following the Alberta Program of Studies. With employment, candidates will have the opportunity to participate in land-based learning, travel through field trips, postsecondary institution tours and more.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook balanced lunches for youth.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Services food safety regulations.
  • Safely operate kitchen equipment and maintain a clean, sanitary workspace.
  • Assist in portioning, packaging and distributing lunches to youth.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure timely and efficient service.
  • Maintain records related to food preparation, allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism while interacting with students and staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Previous cooking or food service experience is an asset.
  • Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow safety protocols.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physically able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid class five (5) drivers license is and asset.
  • Clean criminal record & vulnerable record check.
