This role is a rare opportunity to join a large-scale natural resource development project from the earliest stages of construction and play a direct role in securing the approvals that will enable its long-term success. As a permanent employee versus an external consultant, you will influence the project's strategic direction and growth by ensuring it meets all regulatory requirements on time and with the highest level of quality.
Remote / WFH / Hybrid: Hybrid in Vancouver, Victoria, BC or 100% remote.
Travel: Minimal, some site visits
Salary: $115k - $165k DOE, plus health benefits, RRSP matching, annual bonuses (The final salary will reflect the qualifications, relevant experience, expertise, and professional designations that each candidate brings to the role. Individuals who offer additional strengths or bring exceptional value to the team will be considered for compensation beyond the stated range, as our client recognizes and rewards unique contributions.)
What Success Looks Like:Within this role, your performance will be measured by your ability to:
  • Secure all major project approvals on schedule and within budget, ensuring zero delays to the project construction and operations timelines.
  • Deliver complete, high-quality regulatory applications that consistently receive positive feedback from regulators and require minimal resubmissions.
  • Develop and maintain a permit tracking system that provides accurate, real-time information on the status of all applications for the development team.
  • Manage external consultants and internal teams so that deliverables meet or exceed expectations on cost, quality, and timelines.
  • Proactively identify and resolve permitting risks, ensuring the project maintains compliance with regulatory obligations across all phases (development, operation, closure).
  • Strengthen relationships with regulators, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders, resulting in productive partnerships and positive reputation outcomes for the project.
  • Integrate environmental management plans and auditing practices that reduce non-compliance findings and demonstrate continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Key Deliverables:
  • Submit and achieve approval for all priority Mines Act (MA), Water Sustainability Act (WSA), Environmental Management Act (EMA) applications and amendments required for early construction activities.
  • Establish a clear and auditable process for tracking, reporting, and fulfilling regulatory commitments and permit conditions.
  • Provide measurable technical support to the community relations team that improves engagement outcomes with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
  • Lead or support strategic initiatives in water quality management, biodiversity, terrestrial effects, and mine closure planning with measurable risk reduction.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field; professional registration (EP, P.Ag, R.P.Bio, or equivalent) preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in regulatory approvals and compliance, preferably within mining.
  • Proven ability to lead complex permitting processes and manage multiple, concurrent applications (e.g., Notices of Work, MA/EMA amendments, WSA, Fisheries Act authorizations).
  • Track record of meeting deadlines and budgets on major permitting initiatives.
  • Strong technical writing, data analysis, and project management skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining positive relationships with regulators, Indigenous groups, and other external stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge in water treatment and aquatic disciplines, as well as environmental assessment legislation, is considered a strong asset.
  • Willingness to travel to the project site to integrate with on-site teams and stakeholders.
