Partner Staffing on behalf of our Client, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Substation Civil Engineer to join our Calgary-based team. This role involves leading the civil and structural design of high-voltage substation projects (69kV to 500kV), including site grading, foundations, structural steel, and control building design. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge, strong leadership abilities, and a proven record of delivering high-quality designs on time and within budget.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the civil/structural engineering design for substation projects from conceptual design through construction.
- Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications related to:
- Foundation design (equipment, control buildings, transformers, etc.)
- Structural steel supports and equipment structures
- Site grading, drainage, and access roads
- Substation yard layout
- Collaborate closely with electrical, protection & control, and geotechnical engineers to ensure interdisciplinary alignment.
- Perform site assessments and support construction through RFIs, field reviews, and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with clients, utilities, contractors, and regulatory bodies throughout all project phases.
- Mentor and provide technical oversight to junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes (CSA, ACI, NBC, etc.), standards, and client specifications.
- Contribute to project schedules, budgets, and proposals as a senior technical lead.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is an asset.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta or eligible for registration with APEGA.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in civil/structural design for high-voltage substations or related infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in relevant engineering software (e.g., STAAD, RISA, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Mathcad, Revit is an asset).
- Strong knowledge of Canadian codes and standards (e.g., CSA C22.3 No.1, A23.3, S16, NBC).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
