About the Opportunity
Border Paving Ltd. is hiring for a paid IT internship designed to lead into a full-time IT support position. This is a 3-month opportunity for someone looking to launch-or relaunch-their IT career in a real-world setting. You'll work directly with our CIO, support a diverse user base, and gain hands-on experience with systems, infrastructure, and real business challenges.
You'll be paid from day one, treated as part of the team, and expected to show up, show initiative, retain knowledge, and grow quickly.
This internship exists to find the right long-term teammate - not to rotate through temps.

- A safe and supportive work environment
- Competitive pay during internship (hourly)
- Profit-sharing, safety awards, and full benefits after conversion
- Direct mentorship from experienced IT leadership
- A clear, structured path to a permanent full-time role
What You'll Be Doing

- Setting up and configuring laptops, desktops, and mobile devices
- Installing and updating software applications
- Supporting users both in person and remotely, with professionalism and empathy
- Managing IT inventory and asset records
- Performing basic networking tasks (Wi-Fi, printers, VPNs, etc.)
- Assisting with onboarding/offboarding and security configurations
- Participating in IT projects with support and feedback from senior staff, including development and implementation projects
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma required (IT post-secondary welcome but not required)
- Strong memory retention, follow-through, and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn, take notes, apply feedback, and retain what you're taught
- Clear, professional communication
- Reliable, respectful, and proactive-someone who finishes the job and asks what's next
- Valid driver's license required
- Willingness to occasionally travel to other Border Paving sites (e.g., Camrose, Stony Plain)
Compensation & Conversion
- Hourly pay during 3-month internship
- Interns who demonstrate reliability, retention, and initiative will be considered for permanent full-time hire
- Upon conversion: negotiated salary, full benefits, and inclusion in profit-sharing program
- All equipment and training provided
Hiring Process
This process is designed to find capable, communicative, detail-oriented candidates. Only applicants who follow all steps will be considered.
Step 1: Vocaroo Voice Submission
Go to https://vocaroo.com and record two short audio clips answering the following:
- What about the IT industry has captured your interest? Where do you see your career in 5–10 years, ideally in Central Alberta?
- Explain the difference between a DNS server and a DHCP server, as if speaking to a non-technical coworker.
Paste both Vocaroo links into the two text fields provided during your application via Applicant Pro. Applications without completed audio responses will not be considered.
Step 2: Evaluation & Interview Stages
Shortlisted candidates will go through the following:
- Review of resume and Vocaroo responses
- Short phone screening (10–15 min)
- In-person interview (30–45 min)
- Finalists may be invited for a working session (1–3 hrs) to observe how they take direction, solve problems, and retain key concepts
We're not testing perfection-we're testing your attitude, effort, and ability to grow.
