Position: Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

Reports To: Director, Analytics

Contract Type: Indefinite, Full Time

Job Summary

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer supports the organization's data-driven initiatives by assisting in the collection, preparation, and presentation of business data. This role is primarily responsible for organizing and transforming data into meaningful insights through the development of basic data models, reports, and dashboards. The BI Developer helps maintain data quality, supports existing solutions, and ensures consistency in data documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Modeling & Reporting

  • Prepare, clean, and transform data using established data management practices, to ensure accuracy and readiness for analysis.
  • Support the development of basic data models and structures.
  • Create and enhance dashboards, reports, and visualizations using business intelligence tools.
  • Document data sources, definitions, and reporting processes, and help maintain data dictionaries and metadata to promote knowledge sharing, clarity and consistency.
  • Provide information and clarity on data analytics requirements, processes and best practices;
  • Perform data quality checks to identify missing or inconsistent values, following up with stakeholders where appropriate and escalating issues as required.
  • Provide ongoing support and improvements of existing data models and analytical solutions.

Business Analysis & Requirements Support

  • Assist in gathering and documenting business data and analytics requirements;
  • Support the definition of projects and deliverables based on business requirements;
  • Design, develop and customize reports and dashboards to support business decision-making;
  • Apply data analysis techniques to identify trends, and patterns, to support decision-making.

And other duties and responsibilities, as assigned from time to time.

Key Requirements:

Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or equivalent education and experience;
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in Business and/or Data Analysis, Data Modeling, Data Warehousing or Business Intelligence;
  • Previous experience with MS Power BI required;
  • Prior experience with various AGILE development methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, Kanban, etc.);
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (e.g. Microsoft, Business Objects, etc.);
  • Experience with MS SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) required;
  • Proven proficiency with one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, C++, Python, etc.);

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key member of a team and independently with minimum supervision;
  • Meticulous attention to detail, refined organizational and time management skills and the ability to manage overlapping tasks;
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to deal with sensitive and complex information;
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure.


The starting annual salary for this position is between $66,550.00 and 79,000.00 per annum, based on candidates' qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
