DUTIES:

Reporting to the Manager of Public Service, this position is responsible for supervising, scheduling, and directing staff. The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between staff and Public Service Managers and will coordinate outreach and/or programming initiatives.
Key responsibilities include: Supervising, training, and guiding staff in the delivery of public services across designated branches. Managing staffing needs, including identifying and addressing vacancies in line with established procedures. Providing orientation, mentoring, and ongoing training for library staff and others as needed. Researching, recommending, implementing, and monitoring public service procedures. Investigating and resolving public service issues, escalating matters to the Manager when appropriate. Overseeing programming and outreach activities as required. Managing a portion of the materials collection, including selection, de-selection, and analysis. Verifying non-union staff schedules for payroll purposes, if applicable. Delivering Readers' Advisory, Reference, and Circulation services to both customers and staff. Assessing the impact of system changes and offering recommendations to Administration. Assuming responsibility during emergency situations in the Manager's absence. Performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation's Health & Safety Program. Carrying out other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Masters Degree from an accredited school of Library or Information Science or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian.
  • Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful driver's licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and have use of a personal vehicle.
  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal, problem resolution, communication, motivational and organizational skills.
  • Must have excellent public service and customer relation skills.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software and electronic devices.
  • Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
  • Knowledge of collection development considered an asset.
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a sedentary level of work.
  • Available to work weekends.
