Overview and Purpose of the Role
Reporting directly to the Director Clinics, Perioperative and Procedures this role is responsible for pre and post care of surgical and procedural patients. The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) joining our interprofessional team will provide compassionate, reliable, comprehensive nursing care to patients in Surgical Day Care in a safe and proficient manner according to individual patient needs. This role is ideal for an RPN with a strong clinical foundation and excellent communication skills who thrives in fast-paced, team-based settings
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Care of patients pre-op/ procedure and post-operatively/ post-procedure.
- Care planning and coordination of care with various team members.
- Utilization of computerized systems for documentation of patient care.
- Manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Participation in project teams or Hospital committees as required.
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned
Corporate Responsibilities:
- Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
Education, Skills, & Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 2 years of recent surgical experience required; perioperative experience preferred
- Proficient in IV therapy; valid BCLS certification required
- Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, care planning, education, and documentation
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to work independently
- Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills
- Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment with sensitive information
- Displays analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve routine issues under supervisory guidance.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Clear criminal/vulnerable sector check and up-to-date immunization/TB records required
