POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, this position performs a variety of functions in an engineering and manufacturing capacity. These duties include but are not limited to developing, revising, and editing CAD drawings for fabricated products, creating, and revising bill of materials (BOM) based on designs, trouble shooting and evaluating design inefficiencies and providing support, and assisting in other engineering projects, as required. The remaining points are inserted under the duties and responsibilities section.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3-year College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years' experience working within a manufacturing or industrial application environment as a Manufacturing Engineer preferably in the textiles industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering designs, and creation of bill of materials (BOM).
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks, creating 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Must be good at conceptualizing ideas and converting them into a manufacturable design.
  • Experience creating and working within the process of engineering and design.
  • Experience using ERP systems.
  • Training in Lean initiatives and the implementation of Lean, is an asset.
  • Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Mechanical and control systems (PLC) knowledge and experience
  • Vision systems experience.
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WMIS, Industrial and Construction Act.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail orientated, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cohesively with employees and managers as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with cross functional team like Manufacturing, Sales and Quality.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure with simultaneous deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of pertinent data.
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Partner with the Manufacturing and Sales Teams to develop, design and review engineering drawings and design layouts.
  • Create bills of material (BOM) for Albarrie produced and outsourced products and create new items within the ERP system.
  • Maintain and coordinate change control process for updates to BOM's based on engineered drawings.
  • Work with the engineering team to develop initial product cost model from design and BOM perspective.
  • Perform time studies with the manufacturing group on new and existing products.
  • Support and liaison with the sales teams on the development of products by looking at the parameters and constraints on machinery and providing research results and recommendations.
  • Participate in the development of new manufacturing processes, as part of cross functional teams.
  • Leads installation of new manufacturing processes.
    • Identifies and/or implements manufacturing process improvement opportunities including lean initiatives.

    • Perform cost analyses and obtain approval sign-off
  • Provides engineering assistance to the Manager of Capital Projects in capital equipment justification, as required.
    • Obtain appropriate quotes and/or proposals
    • Provide assessments and supply capital equipment justification
    • Assess and supply capital equipment justification data
    • Prepares Capital requests.
  • Coordinates compliance with health and safety and environmental legislation.
    • Establishes awareness of health and safety and environmental regulations.
    • Reviews work completed in accordance with legislative requirements
    • Modifies work completed as required.
  • Participates in company sponsored programs.
    • Participates in various internal teams such as product development, plant layout, etc.
    • Complies with all WHMIS occupational health and safety legislative requirements.
    • Maintains cleanliness and safety of own work area.
    • Contributes to company's continuous improvement efforts.
  • Generate and maintain product, equipment and tooling drawings.
  • Generate Albarrie equipment drawings and maintain drawing indexes
    • Create 2D and 3D Cad drawings of new equipment, upgrades and modifications.
    • Reverse engineer drawings for existing equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned
    • In the event that unforeseen activities should arise that require Engineering's participation, this position may be called upon to perform duties not already outlined in this job description.
