Southpointe is seeking an energetic, outgoing and collaborative professional who shares a commitment to inquiry and concept-based learning environment. Reporting to the Junior School Assistant Principal, or designate, the Academic Support and Extended Learning Aide position will commence on August 21, 2025 for the 2025-2026 school year.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

*These may include, but are not limited to...

  • Act in a leading role to plan, organize, and deliver co-curricular and/or athletic opportunities for students from Kindergarten to Grade 5;
  • Provide support for students participating in co-curricular activities and/or athletics; collaborate with lead teachers or specialists to provide assistance where needed;
  • Promote the alignment of co-curricular involvement with the core values of the school, fostering character development, teamwork, and a well-rounded education for all students;
  • Assist the leadership team with the coordination of special events, including, but not limited to, displaying student work and organizing resources and materials;
  • Support instructional activities by assisting the lead teacher or specialist teachers in preparing and delivering instructional materials and lessons;
  • Help to clarify subject matter to students through reinforcement of learning objectives;
  • Support and maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring students adhere to classroom expectations and school policies;
  • Provide additional support to students during class exercises, and work individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts;
  • Collaborate with the Head of Junior School Learning Support to assist students with learning differences;
  • Conduct individual assessments of students under the direction of the administration, Head of Junior School Learning Support and/or lead teacher;
  • Regular and ongoing weekly outdoor supervision duties;
  • Assist students with day-to-day educational needs, which include, but are not limited to, meal distribution, and field-trip monitoring;
  • Act as a backup for any Co-Curricular Club, as needed;
  • Model a strong work ethic, high standard of commitment, and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, administrators, students and parents;
  • Participate in community building events, both in and out of school hours;
  • Offer expertise, experience and enthusiasm when leading or organizing co-curricular activities;
  • May include additional responsibilities, as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Proven ability to communicate and work collaboratively with administration;
  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups to foster and enhance a positive work environment;
  • Proven ability to implement behaviour management techniques as well as flexibility in response to student behaviours (e.g. adjusting and adapting strategies);
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to use professional judgement when discussing confidential information about students;
  • Ability to operate a variety of office and school equipment, including equipment specific to the needs of the student(s);
  • Ability to sustain the level of fitness required to lead and participate in athletic and co-curricular activities;
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

Preferences

  • Specialized training such as a Behaviour Intervention Certificate or Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis is beneficial;
  • POPARD (Program for Autism and Related Disorders) training or similar autism-focused certifications are highly valued;
  • Experience working with multiple age levels of students, including neurodiverse children;
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.

  • $33.27 per hour
