Position Summary
Orillia Cardiac Care is currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Cardiac Sonographer to join
our dynamic and collaborative healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for
performing echocardiographic examinations to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of
cardiac conditions. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong technical skills, and
the ability to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff. The successful
candidate will work closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide
high-quality diagnostic services in a patient-centered environment.

Compensation and Benefits
• Salary: $42.00 - $45.00 per hour. Commensurate with experience and quality of scans.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Work independently to acquire and analyze diagnostic images using ultrasound
technology and ensure optimal image quality to CorHealth Ontario standards of a wide
range of echocardiographic procedures, including transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE),
stress echocardiography, and contrast and bubble studies.
• Be familiar with, and evaluate, different aspects of the heart, such as chamber size, valve
function and blood flow using ASE guidelines. Have knowledge of basic cardiac conditions in
order to recognize and identify any abnormalities.
• Stay current with advancements in echocardiography techniques and medical technology.
Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
• Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures during all procedures.

• Maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring it functions properly and report any
malfunctions or issues. Ensure the workspace is clean and organized.
• Be knowledgeable and confident to contact physician if critical pathology is noted during
examination, as per policy
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss results and
contribute to patient care plans where required.
• Use reporting software to analyze and prepare thorough and accurate preliminary reports
for physician interpretation. Document findings accurately in patients' electronic medical
records
• Review patient charts and obtain vitals, including height and weight, on all patients prior
to examination. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process to ensuring their
comfort, safety and privacy
• Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, critical thinking and ability to prioritize in a
fast-paced clinic environment. Require basic troubleshooting skills when required.
• The successful candidate should ensure that they are able to work as a committed member
of the clinic team, during periods of downtime, it is expected that the sonographer will
assist with holter set-up and cleaning, ECG diagnostics, assist front desk staff where needed
and complete other tasks as directed by the office manager

Qualifications
• Graduate of a recognized program in Diagnostic Medical Adult Sonography
• Registered with A.R.D.M.S. and/or C.A.R.D.U.P.
• Certification in Cardiac Imaging and Adult Echocardiography.
• Follow complete protocol as per Cardiac Care Network requirements for performing adult
sonography.
• Perform full protocol resting echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms.
• Current BLS certification.
• 1+ year experience preferred; new graduates welcome.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathology, and ultrasound physics.
• Proficiency in medical terminology related to cardiology
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact
compassionately with patients
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work independently, collaboratively in a team setting, and effectively in a fast-
paced environment while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Preferred Skills and Assets
• Familiarity with PACS and electronic health records (specifically Arya EHR)
• Knowledge of strain imaging is an asset.
• Experience with IV insertion and contrast echo an asset, but willing provide education and
training.
