ABOUT THE ROLE
HR Generalist
The Human Resources Generalist will perform a variety of administrative tasks for HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, training & development, health & safety, payroll and benefits, special HR Projects. Reporting to Human Resources Manager, this position will assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of ongoing HR initiatives that support the overall corporate vision.
—This is 100% in-office position in Toronto, Canada. We are not currently sponsoring candidates from outside of Canada—
A solid understanding of human resource principles, the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are crucial to the success of this role. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities:
Recruiting
Responsible for full-cycle recruitment: such as posting roles, sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting phone screens, conducting references and background checks, and preparing offer letters
- Coordination of interviews for internal managers
- Strategize on new methods for recruitment and sourcing applicants
- Establish effective onboarding procedures and conduct new employee orientation.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to their hiring requirements; reviewing job descriptions, internal equity and establish candidates 6-month training plan (monitors career-pathing program)
- Utilize the human capital management software system Jazz HR in conjunction with ADP Workforce Now to recruit, onboard, and process information for new hires
- prepare work station and orientation packages for all new hires, administer required training modules, set up employees on company HRIS and timekeeping platform, perform building safety orientation, and ensure overall smooth transition and onboarding process for all new employees.
Payroll and Benefits
- Payroll processing experience using ADP Workforce Now; set up of new hires in payroll system, and maintain employee records
- Be the main point of contact for Payroll related questions, ensuring Time and Attendance is accurate and approved to meet payroll deadlines. Review any discrepancies and fix them in a timely manner.
- Running of reports and analytics when required
- Perform benefits administration, including new hire setup, claims resolution, change reporting, communicating benefits information and other employee programs to employees.
Employee Life cycle;
- Monitoring new hire probationary periods; setting of company benefit program
- Conduct off boarding activities including conducting exit interviews
- Participating in employee engagement initiatives
- Responsible for preparing the paperwork for employee status changes, and employee departures; conducts termination meetings and exit interviews as required.
- Assist in the coordination of professional development and training initiatives for all employees.
Training & Development – assist with training requirements, source training vendors, obtain quotes, coordinate training with foreman, employees, and training supplier, ensure training certificates are kept on file;
HR Administration
- Prepare recognition communications
- Engage with new HR programs
- Handle employee requests and manage employee relationships
- Offer support and guidance to employees with internal issues and concerns
- Maintaining electronic filing system & personnel documents
- Providing administrative support, data analysis
- Providing day-to-day support to employees
- Adhering to the consistent interpretation of Company policies, procedures, and programs
- Making recommendations for the improvement of policies, procedures, and programs
- Participating in the development and delivery of communications to the HR team and client groups
- Coordinate and accurately maintain all required HR, training and payroll records and employee documentation
- Providing front-line support for employee relation issues, conducts investigations as required.
- Responding to requests from employees and/or leaders regarding the interpretation of established Human Resources policies. Identifies and escalates unusual requests or employee relations challenges to the HR Manager.
- Providing administrative support to HR team members as required: includes scanning and saving documents; filing; completing and copying forms.
- Coordinate temporary staffing companies and employees.
- Administer company uniform program.
- Prepare reports, documents, letters and other HR process related procedures and work instructions.
- Create forms and tracking systems for special projects as needed.
- Assist with and perform audits when applicable.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs.
- Participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in Human Resources, ideally from an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Working towards CHRP designation preferred
- Payroll processing experience for Canada using ADP Workforce Now is mandatory; some USA payroll experience preferred
- Attention to detail and data accuracy
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi task and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities
- Understanding and knowledge of ESA in Ontario, Human Rights Code, and OHSA
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint
- Strong skills oriented on teamwork, results and autonomy;
- Ability to communicate clear and concise information in an accurate informative manner.
- Ability to develop and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and exercise discretion and ethics.
- Must be able to travel between 3 facilities
