Our client, a respected organization in the facilities sector, is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to oversee its finance function and contribute to broader operational success. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, compliance, payroll, and supporting technology infrastructure, including ERP implementation.
The ideal candidate brings a hands-on leadership style, strong technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to drive process improvements in a fast-paced, service-driven environment. Experience in managing union payroll and working across departments will be highly valuable.
Role Expectations & Compensation
  • Hybrid model: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote
  • Location: West GTA
  • Availability for evening or weekend support during critical financial cycles
  • Role may evolve based on company growth and operational needs
  • Salary of 90-115K annually commensurate on experience

Key Responsibilities:Financial Operations & Oversight
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including AR/AP, general ledger, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting
  • Manage all payroll operations in collaboration with internal administrators, ensuring compliance and process accuracy
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting best practices
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow Management
  • Lead the budgeting process, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning
  • Analyze and monitor revenue streams, expenses, and margin performance
  • Provide the executive team with timely financial data to support strategic decision-making
  • Ensure financial controls are robust and scalable to support company growth
Audit & Compliance
  • Coordinate external audits and manage year-end preparation
  • Ensure full compliance with all financial regulations and internal control standards
  • Review and enhance financial policies, procedures, and systems
ERP & Systems Implementation
  • Oversee the assessment, selection, and implementation of a new ERP system
  • Collaborate with operational leadership to integrate finance systems with other business functions
  • Improve automation and data accuracy across financial reporting platforms
Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner with senior operations leaders to align financial strategies with business goals
  • Support cost control, pricing strategy, and vendor negotiation analysis
  • Contribute financial insight to support mergers, acquisitions, and expansion planning

Qualifications:
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) required
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in financial leadership, preferably in mid-sized, service-based or operations-heavy industries
  • Proven experience in full-cycle accounting, payroll, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance, and regulatory reporting
  • Demonstrated success managing or implementing ERP systems
  • Experience leading finance teams and working cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of union payroll or collective agreements is a strong asset
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
