DescriptionHi there, we're Article. Since 2013, we have been redefining the furniture industry one sofa at a time, it's not easy — it requires solving challenging, meaningful problems. This is where you come in, as a Senior Product Manager (Retail), you'll work between the business teams and the tech teams to translate business requirements and drive prioritization of the highest impact tech initiatives within Article. We expect this person to come in and make sense of the complexity we face while finding opportunities where it can be simplified and/or where we can add value to the business (cost saving, efficiency, revenue generation, etc).
*Please note, you need to be located in the Greater Vancouver region for this position as you will need to be in-office 3 days per week.
Why We Need You:
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager who thrives on tackling complex problems, has the versatility to make an impact across a wide range of retail domains (eCommerce, Finance, Marketing, Customer Care, Logistics and Supply Chain) and dives into the details to drive initiatives from concept to completion.
We are in the process of a multi-year Tech Modernization transformation. Article was founded by 4x software engineers, where we built most of our tech in-house. Early in our journey, this was an advantage, but as we scaled, some of our in-house-made systems started to hold us back as a business. We're now replacing some of these systems with best-of-breed off-the-shelf systems to ensure our technology enables our business growth.
As a result, as a Senior Product Manager, you will require both business and technical acumen with a strong systems mindset. You combine all this with strong judgement and instincts to make correct decisions often, even when faced with limited information or conflicting perspectives.
You don't just set vision—you drive results.
Whether defining Tech's overall roadmap, partnering with engineering and stakeholders on business requirements, or delivering projects, you get deeply involved. This role requires someone who can get into the details, unblock teams, and deliver outcomes through hands-on ownership of complex, cross-functional projects.
You will not be successful in this role (or selected) if:
  • You're early in your Product Management career. This role requires deep product management experience, ideally in complex, cross-functional environments
  • You're an engineer just starting the transition to Product Management. We're looking for someone with established product leadership experience rather than someone early in their transition from engineering.
  • You're a Project Manager by title or responsibilities - we have Project Managers, and while some skills overlap, this isn't the role for you
  • You're a BA or Product Owner by title or responsibility, who is focused on gathering user stories, without experience in building strategic roadmaps and influencing senior leaders/execs. This role may be a stretch.
  • You want to work in a hierarchical top-down organization. We thrive on accountability and authority matching, vs top-down direction.

Why Article?
As a Particle (people of Article), you will have a high level of autonomy to solve challenging, meaningful problems in the best way you can. That means you're trusted to explore solutions you believe will work best (you're the expert, after all). You'll do all this while growing your skills within a company that is redefining the furniture industry.
Article operates using an internal marketplace model - something we will discuss further in the interview process.
You combine strategic thinking with a strong entrepreneurial drive to bring this marketplace's strongest ideas from business proposals to executable project plans. Sometimes, these plans change, and you'll have to know how to pivot in those moments.
About the Tech team:
The tech team currently consists of 2x Directors of Engineering, 1x Product Manager, 1x Program Manager, 1x Software Engineering Manager, and 12x Software Engineers
We are a hybrid team - you'll be in the office 3 days per week.
What You'll Do:
  • Contribute to the Tech roadmap, including our Tech Modernization program, replacing many of our in-house engineered solutions with off-the-shelf solutions.
  • Work with business functions to identify and build business cases for investment funding (i.e., building new tools, features, etc)
  • Communicate strategy, roadmap, and delivery progress to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects (eCommerce, finance, marketing, logistics, customer care)
  • Partner with Engineering Management to support business operations
  • Identify and drive continual improvements in Tech's internal processes

Who You Are:
  • Qualifications:
    • Typically, 10+ years of product management experience for a role of this level.
    • Must have worked in retail/ eCommerce, ideally also knowing supply chain, or logistics (especially with enterprise software supporting these domains — strong asset).
    • Experience in organizations undergoing tech debt reduction, legacy system migration, or platform re-architecture (highly desirable).
  • Skills:
    • Proven ability to own and drive roadmap strategy and definition: able to synthesize competing priorities — technical debt, feature requests, business needs — into a clear, actionable roadmap aligned with company goals.
    • Track record of successfully delivering complex, cross-functional programs with multiple stakeholders and high technical ambiguity.
    • Stakeholder management and influence; able to work with strong personalities, and get alignment, negotiate trade-offs, and secure buy-in — often under pressure.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Experience working closely with engineering and operational teams.
    • Experience using Agile Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
